This stamp is part of the Australian Paintings Definitive Series 1974-81 a reproduction of the painting by Hans Heysen issued 24 April 1974
The concept of reproducing nationally significant paintings on Australian postage stamps was first raised in December 1966.

These stamps are still widely available at a reasonable cost, in and on cover. This adds to the appeal of this interesting stamp.
